GBPA ARCHITECTS was invited to design a new concept of a nursery for 60 children comprising a playground and a public park. The plot is located in the west suburban area of Rome, which is undergoing a major regeneration process. The four main volumes are connected by a glass corridor and by an outdoor sun-shading cover which also works as acoustical barrier. This large brise soleil structure, aimed to integrate the space and to make children feeling safe under a big roof, connects the teaching area and the utilities and communal areas. One of the main focuses of the project is the relation to the park: the aim is to create a welcoming and cosy environment immersed in the gree, to inspire children’s curiosity and excitement towards the enviroment, from the first years of life.
